Hyaluronic Acid

When reading the ingredients on the back of many skin care products, you will most likely find Hyaluronic Acid (HA). It’s a term that’s been used a lot in the beauty sphere and can be found in creams, facials, tonics, capsules, and the list goes on.

But what is it? What does it do? And does it actually work? To understand why HA is so effective; we need to look at how it works in the body. HA is a naturally occurring sugar in your body. That’s right – it’s already there!  It’s found in your connective tissues, including your skin.  It serves as a moisturiser attracting and attaching water molecules to give skin its elasticity and tone.

As we age, our skin starts to produce less Hyaluronic Acid, leading to it becoming dry and thin. Wrinkles and folds may start to appear. Adding moisturiser with Hyaluronic Acid may provide a short-term effect; however, HA facial fillers truly get moisture deep under the skin. Since facial fillers are injected into the skin, the HA integrates into deeper layers of the skin, working from within to attract water and restore volume.

HA facial fillers like Juvéderm® re-introduce Hyaluronic Acid under the skin to where it is needed and actually ‘fill’ in lines and wrinkles, for a smooth result. These results can last up to 18 months, when your body will gradually break down the filler and the effects will fade.

I love my wrinkles (well, half of them).

What are facial fillers?

Facial fillers are a minimally invasive treatment that revitalise your face by filling the lines and wrinkles to restore volume lost in the skin.
